Camp Beausite Northwest
Camp Beausite Northwest is an incredible camp that our self-storage facility Owners send their Adult daughter to, numerous times a year, year after year, she loves Camp Beausite that much. Camp Beausite was founded in 1989 and they are mission driven to provide an inclusive camp experience for people with Special Needs and their families. Their purpose is simple. To provide social, emotional, and educational outdoor experiences for people who would not otherwise have this opportunity. Additionally, they simultaneously provide respite for their families. A component of the disabilities world that is heavily needed and rarely found.
The camp serves people with Special Needs of all ages. Their programs start at 10 years of age and there is no age limit, like so many other camp programs. They also serve the families and caregivers of these incredible souls. For every camper that has an opportunity to attend their programs, they are simultaneously providing respite services for an additional three to five caregivers and family members. Their programs are developed to not only provide the camp component, but also the care of all activities of daily living (toileting, dressing, showering, eating) in an overnight program. They serve a myriad of diagnoses; Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Lennox Gestalt, Seizure Disorders, and Intellectual and Developmental Delays, among many others.
People with disabilities are an integral part of every community, transcending all demographics, including race, age, and socioeconomic status. No population is exempt from the possibility of a diagnosis, making the Special Needs community a universally shared experience. Despite this pervasive presence, advocacy and funding for individuals with disabilities remain alarmingly low. This disparity highlights the urgent need for increased support and resources to ensure that all individuals with disabilities have access to the opportunities and assistance they need to thrive.
